I came across Motoi Yamamotos work today ‘forest and beyond’ I thought it was croqueted at first but its salt. It’s so delicate. Look at what she does at the end of the exhibition though (it’s under the project section, I can’t put the link in as it gives the same link as this one, she returns the salt to the sea. I couldn’t let people do that to my work. I understand that as salt it is site specific and it can’t be a permanent fixture, or at least it can’t be placed anywhere else afterwards but still I couldn’t let others destroy it, I’d have to do it myself.
The idea that as the artist you are the only one to experience the work close up because others have to view it from a distance is what intrigues me the most though. I love being the one to experience the making of my work and don't always want to share the experience, I enjoy something just being for me.
