I had read about Nellie Bly before visiting Roosevelt Island but I hadn't realised there was a memorial there in her honour. The three spheres reflect the faces of women including Nellie Bly who was a journalist and spent 10 days in the insane asylum in order to write her book on the terrible ways the patients were being treated.
Before reading what the installation represented I especially enjoyed viewing the different sights that the spheres reflected. Seeing the city through the spheres in this quiet setting gave a very different appreciation of the usual hustle and bustle you feel from the city and walking around the spheres, taking in the ever changing views through them allowed you time to reflect and feel at peace.
