I decided to use this cutting process to sort of deface the models from the magazines to replace the shallow beauty of appearance with what's more important ‘inner beauty’.
The ‘inner beauty’ pieces are circular repetitive patterns that are heavily flawed as a representation of life. The imperfections are important to me to show that the pieces are even more beautiful with them, giving the pieces individuality.
I wanted to create hundreds to represent the human elements that make us the same and make us different from one another. But I also wanted to create hundreds because I really enjoy showing lots of ‘something’ together, I like that they lose their individuality somehow, allowing them to almost take on another form, but at the same time can and hopefully will be examined closer and enjoyed separately for their individuality.
I had another productive day at the studios today. I set it all out on the floor to see how much room it took up. The work doesn’t have to be like this, it can be spaced out making it go further but it still isn’t enough. So I’m back to it... I really like them on the floor though, I had an urge to walk all over them.
