Sticks and not stones

I’m been working on the stones part of 'Sticks and stones'. No idea yet how to make the sticks! I've been really frustrated because they have all been glued together but its been too cold and wet to sand them outside, but today was the day. I'm hoping it will stay dry for a while because I’ve entered them as a proposal.
