One of the other workshop leaders at the meeting the other night said that my flower garlands remind her of Tord Boontjeswork. I suppose I can See the similarities, if you are unfamiliar with his work I think this is the stuff she’s thinking of http://tordboontje.com/projects/lights/garland/
I wish mine was like his!! Especially those light shade things. I think it’s cut from thin sheet metal and is so beautiful, intricate and delicate.
My mum was actually the one who inspired me because she is a florist, I wanted to make the plastic into something from nature, to highlight that it’s worth saving, to save the planet.
I did take a look last night though, it didn’t occur to me was to have a flat garland, it would be easier for others to cut. The flowers where the only difficult bits to design because I had to find a way to add petals securely without gluing them and make them stand up, making them flat would have been so much easier. Maybe not as effective though in plastic.
He has so much cut design in his work that really illustrates parts of the flowers and leaves, this wouldn’t be possible for my project as I don’t want to introduce craft knives to the session really but would be really effective.
I was aiming to make garlands that looked natural out of an unnatural material and I think I’ve achieved that so I’m not going to worry to much. So long as people don’t turn up thinking they are going to come away with something like Boontjes work it’ll be ok, because they’d be very disappointed.
