Went over to the Arena Studios for a few hours today. Someone kindly let me in, but I got my swipe card today so they won’t have to again. I brushed my studio floor, added some more of my own stuff to the shelves, sorted through some magazines for body parts and started working on ‘Inner Beauty’. Starting to feel settled in now, just need to get going with something. Remembered to the way home that I’d forgotten to look at the ceiling.
On Thursday Pam asked if I’d like to make some Xmas baubles to be auctioned off, they do it every year. So last night I started working on them. I wanted to do something similar to the ‘Pores’ series of watercolour and inked trees I did last year. So I watercoloured the little wooden baubles and left them to dry. They didn’t look at good as I had imagined, I thought the grain of the wood would be enhanced but the colour did nothing for it. So I decided to use red acrylic paint as a base, but on completing the six baubles my son said they looked like red noses. So I dry brushed some gold acrylic over the top to make it shimmer.
When they were dry I started drawing on the patterns with a fineliner. It went on great but what didn’t occur to me was that by applying acrylic paint I’d made the surface resistant and no matter how long I left it to dry the ink came off on my hands.
So this morning I dabbed on some varnish and so long as I only put on a really small amount it didn’t run. When I got home from the studio I tried rubbing it and no print came off. Just got to varnish the others now and then start the other sides to them all. I think they should be finished by tomorrow.
